Sharing broadband connection (preference)

share mtnl broadband connection 512mbps with my landlord, his son is always downloading through torrents. When he starts downloading my internet speed suddenly goes down. I have asked them but they said there is no preference like thing set. But i think maybe they don't know. no-matter i connect through wire or wireless same thing happens. they have everything router or modem whatever is of mtnl which comes by default. access point vs router
