Fast, green and future-proof: New additions to LANCOM's latest series of routers
London, UK, Monday 12th September, 2011 - LANCOM Systems presents the LANCOM 1781EF, successor to the successful LANCOM 1711+ VPN business router for professional site connectivity, and the latest addition to the 178x series of routers. These products are based on a powerful hardware platform with much larger memory and faster processors. This ensures that the free LCOS updates from LANCOM can be installed for years to come.
The LANCOM 1781EF features a Gigabit Ethernet port as a WAN interface to any ADSL, SDSL, VDSL or cable modem for Internet access. A new green Gigabit Ethernet switch in the LANCOM 178x-series routers provides power-saving functions according to 802.3az for energy-efficient networks. This allows the design of the devices to remain fanless. Four user-configurable ports can be used for LAN, WAN (up to 4x load balancing), DMZ, VLAN, or monitoring.
For the first time on a LANCOM router, a Gigabit small form-factor pluggable socket (Mini-GBIC) for SFP transceivers allows direct connections to fiber-optic cables for WAN- or LAN-side networking of the router. The high-speed USB 2.0 port supplies power to USB media, which is particularly useful for connecting cellular-modem sticks directly to the router for backup Internet access.
Flexibility through virtualization The ARF (Advanced Routing and Forwarding) function of the LANCOM 1781EF provides up to sixteen virtual networks, each with its own settings for DHCP, DNS, routing and firewall. ARF allows logically separate networks to be operated for different groups and applications on a single physical infrastructure.
Security and backup includedThe integrated high-security firewall with stateful inspection, intrusion detection, and denial-of-service protection screens the network safely and reliably from attacks from the Internet. The included management tools LANconfig and LANmonitor offer not only convenient remote maintenance of entire installations and useful setup wizards--such as the 1-Click-VPN wizard which allows the simple setup of VPN connections between LANCOM routers--but also real-time monitoring and logging. Comprehensive backup and high-availability functions guarantee smooth 24-hour operations.
The LANCOM 1781EF is available now at a price of GBP 489.59 excluding VAT. The device provides 5 VPN channels as standard. An optional extra upgrades this to 25 channels. An optional web content filtering for up to 100 users can be enabled. The optional SFP-SX module LANCOM SFP-SX-LC1 is available for GBP 131.44 plus VAT, the LX version LANCOM SFP-LX-LC1 for GBP 228.48 plus VAT.
