Microsoft Access Relational Database - Education - Tutoring

Microsoft Access has been designed to be used as a low cost database system. The software is quick to understand and robust enough to be integrated with a variety of other relational databases with the exception of the very large projects. This product has been used for many years to store information in a variety of different formats. After the information has been stored in different relational databases that have been created by a user, other user can run queries against the database to retrieve the information that is needed. For instance, if an individual has created a table that consists of all of the addresses of a certain company that has multiple locations, users can run a query that can find and display all of the employees that work within a certain area or location. If the ages of the employees are included in the database, the user can run an additional report that will include only those employees who are within certain age range. When a user creates relation al databases like with Access, "related" information is kept in separate tables and they are linked together. There are several key factors that are important with creating databases. One of these keys is normalization, which means similar data should be kept in the one place, and the exact same information should not be stored in multiple places. A Microsoft access database that is not normalized makes it harder for the software query to search and find the appropriate or required information.A normalized database is designed to split out each part of a name into their own separate fields. For example, the full name of a person can be displayed in the format that uses separate and distinct fields to store certain data. The full name will not be displayed in one field. The full name will be displayed in separate fields (i.e. LastName, FirstName, MiddleInitial). This same separate format is used for every name that is contained in that database. Because this software is easy and intuitive, some people have learned how to create databases with very minimal training. However, group training for Microsoft Access is sometimes held on the job site for employees that are required to perform these functions. Access classes are also taught in colleges and universities to students that are majoring in related areas of study, and will usually be used as an entry point for more complex relational database systems.
