Access Control Systems: 3 Things You Should Know About Them - Home - Home Security

The name "Access Control Systems" conjures up images of sophisticated pieces of technology in one's mind when one hears it. Yes, today's access control systems are complex devices where we put our thumbs and our cards on to gain access to certain areas; but they have been around for centuries. Confused? Say hello to the concept of practicing access control over a room with a lock and its key. Or to the idea of huge, burly bald men with clip boards in their hands, ticking away names as people enter a club, and beating you up when you try to tick them off. Here are three facts about modern access control systems you should know about:

1. They can be Used at Home too: Access control systems aren't just limited to banks and hotels, they are perfect for home use too. There are many access control products you can use in your system, you can team up a video entry system with wireless intercom to see and talk to people before you let them into the house for instance. Safes and other such areas in the house can be protected by a digital entry lock to keep prying eyes and thieving hands out. Aerosol spray cans that show your fingerprints on the keypads when sprayed upon don't currently exist.

2. They can be Used for Business: A biometric or card scanner can be used at the office to keep a tab on employee attendance and their time management, giving you real-time analysis on the employee activity that can be accessed in seconds. This frees up time for you to concentrate on other pressing matters and administration. Most Access Control Systems are cloud-based, which means you can access them from anywhere in the world with an internet connection and a computer, giving you full access control over your employees and their performance data.

3. They are more Complicated than Other Systems: They are more complicated and more complex than other access control systems like conventional locks, yet simple and easy to use. Simply put, they are harder to manipulate or get through for unwanted elements like burglars and other intruders, yet they are easy to operate for users. For instance, you cannot just trip the wires on your digital entry locks or biometric locks to waltz into a restricted area, but you can kung-fu your way through security guards to gain access. Yes, you run the risk getting shot if you do the latter but you get my point.

Modern control systems are no more imaginary things from science fiction novels about the future, they are already here. And they are here to stay!
