4 Must Know Points on Sugar Glider Care Right After Your Purchase

Sugar gliders have become very popular pets in the parts of the United States where they are legal, and for great reason: gliders are adorable, active little acrobats, known for running, playing and, yes, gliding--and above all, they are loyal. A glider bonds to a human family in the same way it would bond to a colony of gliders in the wild, unlike most small, furry animals, who will run away at the soonest opportunity.

While this has made these pets very popular, however, the unfortunate truth is that not everyone knows the full requirements of glider care. These are exotic pets, and this means they have exotic needs. That doesn't mean they are difficult to care for, as they are not, but it does mean that you need to know in advance what your pet needs and how best to take care of them.

Providing the little guy's care is not something that can be boiled down into a simple checklist--at least, not by just anyone. But a list can cover some, if not all of the basics, and give people a decent primer to move forward with.

1. Have ready access to people with sugar glider info. It isn't always enough to have the information on tap! It's truly impossible to be completely thorough and account for all contingencies, but it's entirely possible to make connections that know their stuff about gliders. Having an experienced glider breeder's name and number in your address book is an excellent way to maintain proper backup. A good breeder will be very happy to help.

2. Have ready access to glider info. Learn things and bookmark sites you'll find useful in advance of your needing them! Having to stop and research every little detail when the need arises is not the most efficient thing to have to do, particularly if you need an answer fast. Stocking up on your sugar glider information first is important.

3. Make sure you have everything your critters needs physically. This is very general--it has to be. Like any pet, a glider has lots of material requirements that have to be laid out in advance! For a place to sleep, they'll need a special pouch. For places to play, they'll need glider accessories. For a place to put these in, they'll need a cage! Each of these things then has a list of requirements. What do the little guy's eat? This is also something to research and track down in advance.

4. Make sure you have everything your glider needs actively. This is different from their material needs! Like any pet, sugar gliders need attention. They are not needy, and they won't wither if you have to go away for awhile, but they do like hanging out with theirowners! Knowing how these critters play, where it is safe to take them and other similar facts about sugar gliders is an important knowledge set that should be established in advance and expanded on as you care for your pets.

These points are obviously very general--they are supposed to be. Covering every single fact about sugar gliders would take a lot of time and a lot of paper, more than can be done in a single article, but these are some important things to consider for sugar glider care in advance, things to branch off from. Starting points. If you're thinking about this great pet, be sure to do your research!
