The Three Best Wireless Routers - Computers - Hardware

What are the best wireless routers? Well that's sort of a tricky question. There really is no such thing as an objective "Best Wireless Router Ever", well, unless they can make one that not only gives you lightning fast internet, but also turns spam and pop up ads into golden nuggets.

"Best wireless routers" really means "The best wireless routers for _____ (fill in the blank)".

If you're starting a small business and need a router to keep your credit card machine and cash registers online, your needs are going to be a little different than the family man who just wants to keep his family's network online. If you're a bachelor, the best wireless router for web browsing and gaming is going to be a different router than the one your boss uses for the office network.

We'll point you in the right direction, but deciding which router is best is really up to you. Read over these quick reviews and make up your own mind on the matter...

Small Businesses

If you're starting a small business, you may want to start with something like the Belkin wireless n router. It's built as kind of a halfway between a home and business router. If you were trying to run a full office network on it, you'll really be pushing it to its capacity, but for a few wireless devices, maybe a laptop or two, it can really perform. Even if your aim is to provide a coffee shop that doubles as an internet hot spot, a few customers bringing in their laptops should be no problem at all.

For the Home

Check out the Netgear WGR614 wireless router. It's designed for simple, basic home use, but it's surprisingly capable, and offers a very secure connection. You can run a few laptops and even a gaming console on it all at once with no real slowdown. It does, of course, depend on the speed of your internet provider, so yeah, you'll see some lag if you're getting on during peak activity hours, but as far as actual router speed and reliability goes, wgr614 is one of the best out there.

For the Larger Home...

Okay, so you've got a wife/husband, a mortgage and two point five kids. Check out some Linksys wireless routers. Linksys is a company that's been around from the beginning, ever since wireless routers were really only in place in office buildings, so you know they're capable of delivering reliable products that can handle larger networks.

You're likely to spend a little more the more demanding your network needs happen to be, but as long as you're a smart shopper, you know how to keep an eye out for sales and great deals, you should be able to snag whatever you consider the Best Router Out There for less than you'd expect.
