How to Configure Belkin Router - Computers - Networks

The article has been designed to help users perform the Belkin router setup and configuration on their own. The instructions are reliable and correct to the date, and have been designed for normal to advanced users. It is still recommended that users follow the instructions carefully in order to avoid facing common Belkin router problems.

Belkin routers stand apart from its counterpart routers in terms of providing excellent source for home networking. The router, when configured, enables users to use wireless connection, setup wireless security to protect wireless connection from unauthorized users, setup a home network, or connect a gaming console among other things. Though, it is easy to configure Belkin router, you may still run into common problems that may make you feel the need of contacting Belkin router support. Don't worry as the below mentioned guide will help you configure your Belkin router on your own.

Instructions:

You can configure your Belkin router for wireless connection, wireless security, or as an access point etc. during or after the setup procedure. If you haven't setup your Belkin router, then do it first. When done, follow the instructions below to configure as desired.

Configure for wireless connection:

Launch your internet browser (viz. Internet Explorer or Mozilla etc.), type ' (without quotes and as is) in the address bar, and click on Go button or hit Enter on the keyboard. When the Router Setup Utility window comes up, click on the Login button at the top right hand corner. Enter your username and password in the respective fields and click on the Submit or Login whatever button you see there. It is recommended to check your router documents for the login information. If you changed your login details, then enter the new password etc. in the fields to continue. Click on Initial Setup, click on STATIC IP ADDRESS, and then click on the Select button. It is recommended to contact your ISP (internet service provider) for IP address details like whether you have a static or dynamic IP address. Enter IP address, subnet, or gateway information in the respective fields and then hit Enter on the keyboard. If you want, you can guide your router to obtain IP address automatica lly. To do so, go to Control Panel, double click on the Network Connections icon, right click on WAN, and then select Properties. Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) option, click on Obtain an IP Address Automatically, and then click on Obtain DNS Server Addresses Automatically. Click on OK or Apply or both and exit Network Connections and Control Panel windows. Now that you have entered all the information (or your router has obtained all the information automatically), hit the Enter button on the keyboard. Your router has been successfully configured for the wireless connection.

Configure as an Access Point:

Connect you computer using an Ethernet cable to one of the 4 LAN ports at the back of your Belkin router. Launch your internet browser, type '' (without quotes and as is) in the address bar, and hit Enter on the keyboard. Login as mentioned in the above procedure.

Under the heading Wireless on the left hand panel, click on Use as Access Point, click to select the Enable button. Doing this will let you specify the IP address as well as Subnet mask meant for the router. It is recommended that you enter correct settings as these must match with the existing network settings. When done filling up the information, click on the Apply Changes button and exit all the windows.

Additional Tips:

If you are not sure what is your default IP address and Subnet mask, then use this method to obtain these. Click on the Start menu, go to Run, and type 'cmd' (without quotes) in the Run box, and hit Enter on the keyboard. When the Command Prompt window comes up, type 'ipconfig' (without quotes and as is) where the cursor is blinking, and hit Enter on the keyboard. It will display your default IP address, subnet mask, and gateway information.

You can enable either WPA or WEP security at a time. Enabling both at a time is not possible.
