Microsoft PowerPoint is presentation software created by Microsoft. It comes with the Microsoft Office Suite and runs on both Mac OS X and Windows. The original version was developed by Thomas Rudkin and Dennis Austin of Forethought, Inc and was released under the name "Presenter". The name was later changed to "PowerPoint" due to trademark infringement issues. Microsoft bought Forethought for $13 Million in the year 1987 and continued to develop the program.
Computer software for presentations are often referred to as Slideware. PowerPoint 97 made an amazing impact. It used a programming language called Visual Basic and allowed users to create pre-defined transitions without any knowledge of programming. Presentations were linear before PowerPoint 97. Clipboards were introduced in PowerPoint 2000 that enabled slides to hold multiple objects.
PowerPoint presentations usually consists of multiple pages called "Slides". The slides can contain text, animations, graphics, films, audio and other objects. The "Slide Master" makes presentations much easier. The presentation can either be displayed on a desktop or printed. A video projector is used to display presentations for bigger audiences.
