How To Create an Initial Outlook OST File

The following article mainly concerns the issue of generating a first OST file, when it appears to be useful and what steps you need to comply to implement it. Also, the article can be helpful if you want to know how to take full advantage of Outlook's Cached Exchange Mode by confirguring Outlook on your computer. There is no doubt that the Outlook Cached Exchange Mode makes it incredibly easy for users, especially mobile users and those who work from home, to work seamlessly with data from their Exchange mailbox. And they can do so regardless of whether they are working online or offline. Typically, users are able to access the mailbox data such as mails, address book, calendar and other Outlook information with the help of offline folders - OST files that serve as a local cache of the data. One can take further advantage of these offline files by exporting the messages from the offline files to personal storage files. In other words, you can convert OST to PST, which makes it even simpler to access the data using Outlook. If a user has had a mailbox on the Exchange server for some time but has only recently decided to activate the Cached Exchange mode, an initial OST file will have to be created. It is highly recommended that Outlook be allowed to create the required initial cache files - these will include the OST files. However, if the mailbox on the server is fairly large and the network connection slow, it is possible that it takes a very long time for the initial cache files to be created. google_ad_client = "pub-2311940475806896"; /* 300x250, created 1/6/11 */ google_ad_slot = "0098904308"; google_ad_width = 300; google_ad_height = 250; The solution is to create an initial OST file and then install it on the remote computer. At the same time, an initial OST to PST conversion can be carried out making sure that a copy of all the initial data has been made. In order to create the initial OST file, you should first open the mailbox of the user and delete all the Outlook profiles that exist. You can view the list of configured profiles by clicking on the Mail icon, in the Control Panel and then clicking on Show Profiles. Try to remove all the files that exist in the default folder location usually used to store the Outlook OST files. This would typically be: \Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. Now proceed to create a new profile and enable the Cached Exchange mode while creating it. Once the profile has been created, you can start Outlook and wait for it to synchronize the data between the client and the mailbox on the Exchange server. Once the synchronization is successfully completed, you will get a message 'All Folders Are Up to Date'. You can now copy this file to the computer where you would like to actually use it. From this point on, synchronization should work smoothly and you should be able to work on the OST file even while offline. If you face problems while synchronizing or working with Outlook offline, it could indicate that there are some corruption issues with the OST file. While most of the time, standard Microsoft tools should be able to resolve them, more seriously damaged files may need a helping hand from third-party tools. Software such as Advanced Exchange Recovery from DataNumen specialize in recovery of OST files and can easily convert OST to PST data ensuring that data is restored in the same structure as the original file.
