How to Reset a Belkin Router to Factory Settings

The article intends to describe the procedure of resetting a Belkin router to factory default settings. The method described here is simple and correct to the date. Failure or success of the method entirely depends on how correctly you follow and implement the instructions.

Do you want to reset your Belkin router to factory settings but don't know how? If yes, then the article is dedicated to you. You may want to reset your router due to several reasons like you are not able to access the router web interface, router is not performing as per your expectations, or you want to modify or remove all the previous configuration among other things. Reasons are multiple but the solution is one. The below mentioned guide will help you reset your Belkin router to factory defaults on your own. This essentially means that you won't run into common Belkin router problems while doing so and eventually contacting Belkin router support to fix them.

Instructions:

Disconnect all the LAN cables connected to the router. Leave the router powered on. Now take a thin pin or similar object and insert it into the Reset button hole (located at the back of router). Press the Reset button, hold it for 7-10 seconds, and then release. The lights on the router will flicker once, thus restoring it to the factory settings.

Now that your router has been restored to the factory settings, you would need to access the router's configuration page. Connect an Ethernet cable from computer to the router. Connect to the internet and open your internet browser (viz. Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox etc.). Type 192.168.2.1' (without quotes and as is) in the address bar of the browser and click on the GO button (if you see one) or hit Enter on the keyboard.

This will open up the router's login page. Enter your default username and password that came with the router docs. The username is admin and the password is blank. Leave the password field blank as the default password is always blank in Belkin routers. However, it is still strongly recommended that you check you check router docs for the information.

Once you have entered the information, click on the Login button or hit Enter on the keyboard. This will open up the router configuration setting page. You can begin to make changes to your username and password, configure wireless connection settings, or setup an access point among other things. When done, exit the router configuration page.

Additional Tips:

The abovementioned reset procedure is also applied to 4-port router, Wireless G router, 4-port cable/DSL Gateway router, Wireless cable/DSL Gateway router, 802.11b wireless cable/DSL Gateway router, and 802.11g Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router.
