The article has been designed to help users connect a Linksys router to an existing network. The methods compiled here are simple and correct until date. It is, however, recommended that these should be followed correctly to avoid running into problems. This will eventually save users' time as well as money that would otherwise be spent looking for Linksys router support.
The below mentioned guide will help them connect their Linksys device to the existing network on their own. This will essentially sideline the need of contacting Linksys technical help.
Instructions:
Turn off all the devices namely computer, internet modem, and router and disconnect their power cables from the respective outlets. Disconnect the internet modem by unplugging its Ethernet wire from the back. Now take a network cable plug its one end into the WAN or WLAN, or Internet port located at the back of the router and other end into the modem.
Reconnect the Linksys router to its respective electricity outlet using the power adapter. When plugged in, turn on the device and wait for it to boot. Plug the modem back to the router using the Ethernet wire. Thereafter, plug the modem back to the electricity jack and turn it on.
Reconnect the computer too to the power outlet and Linksys router. Once the computer has turned on and fully loaded, open up your internet browser. Type '192.168.1.1' (without quotes) into the address bar of the browser and hit the Enter key on the keyboard. It will bring up the router's login screen asking for username and password.
Type the login credentials into the respective fields and click on the Login button or again hit the Enter key to proceed to the configuration page. When logged in, highlight the Wireless tab and the Basic Wireless Settings to configure wireless. Give a name to your Wireless Network (any name of your choice), select a Channel number for the Wi-Fi to work on, choose a Network Mode, and select to enable Wireless SSID Broadcast etc.
Highlight the Wireless Security tab and select the Security Mode viz. WPA2 Personal or WEP etc. Enter an alpha-numeric key to secure your Wi-Fi connection from unauthorized access. You must note this key down on a piece of paper and keep it to a safe place. This will help you reconnect to your network if you have forgotten or misplaced the key by fluke. It is also recommended that you write down all other details like wireless network name, username and password for the router for future purposes. When done, click on the Save Settings button and exit the router's interface. Your Linksys router is now added to the existing network to ensure enhanced Wi-Fi range and connectivity.
