We have all heard of fairy tale success stories. Stories of how some people, battered by life, fought and worked their way to success. People who burned their boats, got burned, and build new ones again. These are the people who inspire awe in all of us.
Life basically has three routes - the easy, the hard, and the impossible.
Those who take the easy route live a safe and boring life. Those who take the hard route become tough and have a sense of fulfillment. But those who take the impossible route, inspire others and show them it can be done.
Most of us are content to take the easy route. Sometimes someone will take the hard route. They usually get noticed by those taking the easy route. But only once in a blue moon will someone take the impossible route, and come out on top. That one person will inspire those taking the easy route to take the hard route, those taking the hard route to try the impossible.
In building wealth, the safe route is getting a good, high-paying job. Working from 9am to 5pm, doing redundant work for forty years if you plan to stick with it. See why it's boring? Apart from that, it's next to impossible for you to amass a million dollars, let alone a hundred million, as an employee.
The hard route is starting your own business. This can be easily done while taking the easy route, with a small income you can put some aside and little by little, build your business. This is usually where those who take the impossible route start thinking of it.
The impossible route is dropping out of college and/or opting out of the easy route completely. Taking a huge risk by burning all your boats, by severely limiting your income opportunities if you don't strike it big, this is the impossible route. Very few people take this, and very few even finish this route. Those who don't switch routes, or those who stay consistent, come out on top.
There are many roads to success, but real success only comes to those who want it so bad that they will do anything, learn anything, and exert all their effort to get it. Heck, Michael Jordan won a game with a fever and an empty stomach. What can't you do?
There are certain keys to this though. A positive attitude, a can't die won't die kind of determination, and of course the skills you need are all important. That is why you must take extra time to improve your skills, or build a team that has great skills if you want to leverage on that.
Skills are all about getting things done effectively. A team can do it better than an individual. Even if your boat gets burned, build a new one. Coupled with a positive mental attitude, the universe rewards consistent, persistent, stubborn effort with success.
