How To Configure Router To Transfer Data? - Computers - Hardware

A router is a device which receives signals based on a network and transfers them using the help of the Internet. This device is connected to the computer using data cables. So, it is not movable and remains stationary. However, Wi-Fi technology enables us to have wireless routers. Many electronic devices including the computer need access to the router and that is why it has to be located in a place where it is proximate for all the devices. To configure a router we must first of all connect it to the power socket. It is to be connected with the help of an Ethernet cable which is different from normal cable wires. USB wires are also a good option but mostly Ethernet cables are the preferable option. Then the modem is to be switched off and to be switched back on after a gap of a few seconds so as to ensure steady flow of power. This way the modem gets recognized for having access to the Internet. Then the other end of the Ethernet cable is to be connected to the computer. The computer instantly recognizes it and accepts the connection. The physical work is done with here. Now, on the computer, we have to follow the path Start> All Programs> Accessories> Communications> Network Connections. There the Internet Gateway is to be configured with an IP address given by the Internet Service Provider (ISP). We have to set up a PPPoE username and password given by the ISP and connect to the Internet. It will start working. We are not done yet. After the whole process, the modem must be switched off and turned back on after a couple minutes and if the Internet is connected right away without any setting up, we are good to go. Otherwise, we might have to carefully reexamine the whole process and execute it again. Thus, this is how a router is configured in simple steps.
