The Australian immigration department has announced major changes to the immigration point's allocation. The new immigration points system is proposed to come into effect on 1st July 2011. Points will continue to be awarded for study in Australia, region study, community languages, and partner skills and for completing an approved professional year. However, points will no longer be awarded for a particular occupation, but an applicant must still nominate an occupation on Australian occupation list.
