Troubleshooting Linksys VoIP Router Problems - Computers - Networks

A Linksys VoIP router is one of the best tools available to anyone who plans to use the VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol. This system allows you to make calls through your Internet connection, avoiding costly phone lines that cause your phone bill to grow. Personal users as well as business users will save a substantial amount of money by taking advantage of what VoIP can offer. However, you do need to install it properly in your home to use this system. To do that, you may need a Linksys wireless router, a router that enables you to create a network in your home for communication. Although the overall process of creating a network is easy, there are instances where you may encounter significant problems.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you do find that you are having problems making VoIP calls or you are having problems with your Linksys VoIP router, the following could be helpful tips to overcoming the problem.

The most common reason for having difficulty in making calls is not having the system setup properly. If the phone is not connected to the phone port properly, calls will not work. To check this, consider the following tips:

* The Phone 1 port connects the router to your telephone, or to the fax machine. You will use RJ 11 telephone cable to do this. If you are using Vonage, this particular port will use that line as the primary Vonage line.

* The next step is to check to see if the corresponding LED's on the router are lit.

* Then, check the LED's on the router. They should be lit as well.

If all of this is set up properly, then you will need to disconnect the RJ 11 telephone cable that connects the telephone to the router. Then reconnect this cable. Be sure there is an active Internet connection in place at this time. This process is called a power cycling and it will usually solve virtually all problems that you are having with your VoIP service and your Linksys wireless router.

If you continue to have problems, it is a good idea to contact Linksys directly. You can find additional troubleshooting tools available to you through their live chat feature. Keep in mind that if your Internet connection is the problem, your VoIP service will not work, and neither will the router. Check it first before calling for further help. Your Linksys VoIP router should work consistently for you otherwise.
