The Steps in Changing the Linksys Router Password

Linksys routers have default passwords so that administrators will not have difficulties configuring them. However, it is essential to change these passwords to avoid security risks such as the transfer of confidential data and data leak. To avoid the occurrence of these problems, the steps in altering the default password for these routers are detailed below.

The first step is to launch the web browser of your personal computer or laptop. Launch its web browser and check the administration page of your router by typing the address and press enter. Leave the box that refers to username blank. Enter the word 'admin' in the box that refers to password.

Look at the main menu of the site and click the Administration tab. Afterwards, select the option that refers to the password setting. Select a strong password for your router. Enter it in the box that refers to Password. Re-type it in the box provided. Choose the Save Settings option at the bottom of the page. A new window will be opened which will inform you that the password of your router was changed.

To check if the password has been changed successfully, the best thing to do is to unplug your router. Wait for around 10 to 20 seconds before plugging it back again to power source. This process will reboot the device. After rebooting, connect to the router and type the new password to see if it was altered.
