Convert A Webcam Into Surveillance System - Install a Wireless Module -

This article is the third in a series detailing how to convert a webcam, also recognized as an IP camera, or an Internet camera into a complete surveillance and security system. Add lights, motion sensors, outdoor enclosures, wireless adaptors and even portable Internet cards to an Internet (IP) camera and you have an ingenious, yet cost-effective electronic security personnel. These can be perfect for watching out on holiday homes and RV's, remote job sites, outdoor businesses, such as quarries or power stations, stored equipment, or even as remote outdoor webcams. The first step was to add a Passive InfraRed (PIR) detector to the camera to trigger it to transmit alerts and to upload pictures or videos of the activities that sparked the detector.
